Black Ocean

BLACK OCEAN

One of my favorite songs is Black Ocean, and one reason for that is the big guitar riff that makes you wanna move! The riff repeats throughout the song, so it really is essential part of the song.

I´m playing in an open position and using mostly the notes from E-minor pentatonic scale

RIFF IN E-MINOR

(bars 0-2) Choose 8va down from Whammy Pedal to make the riff really heavy.

STACCATO AND ARPEGGIO

(bars 31-34) The solo starts with arpeggios that follow the basic chords

(Em7-Dmaj7-Bm7-Cmaj7).

I play 16th notes with a bit of staccato, meaning cutting each note a bit shorter. Use both your hands to shorten the notes for a staccato.

TAPPING WITH PICK

Using the pick for tapping. Use the edge of the pick (not the tip). Alterate the move of the pick between 17th and 19th fret. There´s a pull off and tapping. (bar 49)

SOLO PASSAGE WITH BENDS, SLIDES, PULL OFFS

Challenging pass with different techniques (on bars 45-46)
